Hahaha, Pinky’s car! And Frank’s fuzzy dice! I remember checking out Barbie convertibles but the proportions weren’t quite right. This car was made by the same people who made the white & pink jet plane...did I ever tell you I actually got one via Amazon but quickly returned it because I just couldn’t justify spending money on something like that when families are going hungry. Pinky was very annoyed & would have nothing to do with me for some time after that.

Am tempted to experience the Barbie movie. I LOVED playing Barbies with a couple of neighborhood BFFs, but never had the Dream House, car, or Ken. However, I treasured Barbie’s long red velvet opera coat that my grandmother gave me for my birthday one year. Have often wished I still had it, it was so beautiful.

I worked for a while with a very professional marketing executive who told me that Barbie shoes were the perfect fit for her pet rat. Not making this up.

I think I did hear about Pinky's private jet debacle (She told me about it, and let me tell you, she was not happy!) Her little sports car is perfect though and I'm sure that stealing Frank's Fuzzy dice made her feel a little better.

I never had a Ken doll (I thought he was kind of weird) but I did have Skipper and Midge (Barbie's somewhat less attractive bestie. I had a lot in common with her) Considering I was not really a "doll" kid (I was much more into stuffed animals) I find it's funny that I got into Barbie. I have no idea why my my mother thought it was a good toy for me. I think I did make some clothes for her, but it's really hard sewing things that small.

Did your friend have to get 2 sets of Barbie shoes so her rat could be completely shod?

Of course, she always had to buy 2 sets of outfits in order to have 4 shoes in whatever color or style her pet rat (forget name) wanted to sport at any given moment. Of course!

How could I forget about Boopie and the pandas? ! This is so funny! Thanks for putting this up on line! I was too old for Barbie, I think. Anyway, I have always enjoyed Barbie leading all these different lives! ❤️🐼

Boopie is still one of my all time favorite 'toons. For a while I wanted to do Barbie alternative dioramas: Homeless Barbie with Barbie's Own dream Dumpster to dive in, Drug dealer Barbie, etc. Somehow I never got around to it. I suspect Mattel would have frowned on the concept.

It is just amazing to me how this Barbie movie is taking us all back to our childhood and dolls! I never had an official Barbie, just a knock off. None of her BFFs or Ken. My Mom made her some clothes. Many, many years later though when I was working at Kmart a 35th Anniversary Barbie by Mattel popped up in the clearance section. This is the original 1959 Barbie in her black and white swimsuit and reproduction of the original packaging. Of course I had to have it; the real Barbie that I never had. What is even more astounding even to me is that it moved with us to Texas. Something that I just can't part with now. ??? And why am I telling you this?? :)

My good friend Gail was making some couture outfits for her collection of Barbies. If my window sills weren't full of stuffy pandas and felty pandas, I might consider having a Barbie collection. alas, my mother disposed of my Barbies while I was away at college.

May I say that Linda has embraced Pinky's quest for luxury? I believe Frank and Mikey have acquired a truck. I think that Pinky is still plotting revenge because Linda canceled the purchase of a private jet for her.

I love love LOVE your newsletter!!! And thanks for the nod - I adored the Rabbit and Panda Hole you took us down!!!! Bravo!!!! I too am old enough for the early Barbie years but I was more into books, climbing trees and taking apart clocks. The only doll craze I got was Star Wars figures. I was quite on board with stuffed animals though 😊

I definitely never got into the baby doll thing. I would rather have had a pack of wild mustangs than a squalling baby. I (ahem) may still have a few stuffed animals around the house. Hahahahahahahahaha #CountThePandas

Me too! I'd rather have wild mustangs and or wild librarians. I still like wild librarians. And I (ahem) may still have around the house a stuffed panda bear and a rabbit...

I'm deprived :( Never had a Barbie just baby dolls. My mom thought having a Barbie would be pushig me into an early adolescence. Still puzzled over why it was alright to have baby dolls, which by her logic would be pushing me into early motherhood. ?????!!!!!!????????

Love your panda cartoons.

Thank you! (For both these thoughts) I have vague memories of playing with Barbie with one of my girlfriends, and I'm pretty sure my mother wouldn't have approved of our story lines., had she known! Yeah, I can't get why your mother would think pretending you were a child mother was better than having a slutty best friend.
