Not to take anything away from children with serious illnesses, but what if there was a Make-A-Wish thingy for aging boomers who somehow missed the gravy train...
I too am a retired Boomer, who didn't quite "live up to potential." Haven't given up on finally writing & selling that blockbuster screenplay, now there's no day job demanding my time. So, if I do make my late-life millions, I will gladly sponsor your Make-a-Wish, in gratitude for all the pleasure your l'il pandas have given me.
However, I did treat myself to a VIP ticket to last night's Sisters-in-Law show, here in NYC. (Well worth the Ramen noodle meals, and my 2 hour subway ride. Yeah, I somehow missed buying a midtown condo during the 80s.)
During the meet 'n greet, I flagged your essay and The Panda Chronicles for the Sisters, and Barb took notes. No promises, but you might be getting four new fans soon. Least I can do for a Sister-in-Art.
I feel like I just won the lottery, while at the same time being INSANELY jealous that you got to go see the #SistersinLaw in NYC. (And an effin' VIP ticket!!!!!)
Glad you are not giving up on writing. I figure at my age I have nothing left to lose and no time to waste. I would totally lose my mind is any of the S-i-L started reading the Panda Chronicles. Hmmm...maybe their panda doppelgängers might have to make an appearance on ZooNooZ. Bob would be very excited!
Thank you for being a spokes panda for Panda satire. I have not given up my dream of being the first Panda Satire recipient of a MacArthur fellowship.
The tix were a birthday present, and once I hit "purchase, " my first thought was "What have I done?!" Not having a car, and being a non-drinker does help with my discretionary pittance.
Suggest you do a follow-up in a week or two, once the SIL are done touring. Send 'em a link thru the show notes.
Would love to see their panda counterparts... or maybe they could be foxes.
That was an excellent birthday present! I am a big fan of celebrating my birthday (hence, the Birthday Season!) It's good to channel your inner Princess Pinky! You can buy A LOT of stuff with what it costs to own and maintain a car! Alas, out in the hinterlands, a car is a necessity.
Thanks for the follow up suggestion! I shall do that...probably...maybe...
Am not really a podcast listener (shouldn’t let my mind wander off keeping an eye on the mischievous little doggie), but these legal podcasts sound interesting & worth a try. After all, I spent an entire week in law school before realizing I wasn’t cut out for that life, ha! Just listening to something & not being tested on it is a different story. As for the gravy train, I was just talking to someone this morning about missing out on what were supposed to be my “high earning years.” Ugh. Oh well...
I sometimes wonder if I would be corrupted by un-told wealth...I COULD BUY A PANDA!!!!!! Ahem...maybe it is better that we will never find out. I know a few people who tried law school and figured out it wasn't for them. Me...I was never tempted, but I am enjoying learning a bit now through the pods.
What do I know about high earning years? I taught school! I do have a pension that may go down the drain if the debt ceiling is not raised. Your idea sounds good. Wonder if any of my former students who had high earning years would adopt me? Probably not! I am not even considered a Baby Boomer--too old!
Where do I find podcasts? I belong to Audible. I need to check there. I usually read or work on my iPad to try to figure out what is going on.
All I know is that I love the little pandas you draw, and they speak to me. I love Bikkie and Pookie!
I read the case against Guiliani brought against him by one of his employees. Yuck!
And then there is DeSantis who gets chased by Mickey Mouse and then the Smurfs!
When I think about the people who made the most impact on me and my life, it has always been teachers, and maybe in second place librarians. So even if you forget to become fabulously wealthy, your influence was spread widely over the years. That's a pretty damn good legacy, if you ask me. I think (among the many terrifying and enraging things about DumSantis) that he is destroying both education and the relationships and influence that teachers can have in their students' lives. So much possible good, destroyed by so much totalitarian power grabbing, and for what?

Please add one more to your list - “Dumb Gay Politcs” hosted by Julie & Brandi - it’s fabulous & fun!
OOOH thank you! Always looking for more good podcasts! Makes the days in my studio so much more entertaining.
Cant wait to hear your thoughts 😃❤️
I'm going to load it onto my iPand before I forget.
