It's one of those life events that makes you look at everything differently. Since I survived it, it was, all things considered, less worse than it could have been.
Wow, what an upsetting thing to happen but your friends and neighbors sound so kind. I had a fire in my apt about 18 years ago and things are still not completely fixed since then. Thanks for all your cartoons- you are very talented and I love the drawings and stories.
It is one of those things that you never forget. I remember being told a few years before that, about someone I knew whose family home burned down when he was a kid. He said it was one of the best things that ever happened to them. I didn't understand it then, but I understood it after my fire. It WAS horrible. But I didn't die, I didn't lose everything. I did lose a lot of time, but it made me re-evaluate a lot of things, that turned out for the better. I wouldn't recommend it, but I was lucky.
Whoa! That must have been scary. So glad no one was hurt, and I think its very sweet that you keep those friends in your Gratitude Rolodex (does anyone still use a rolodex?).
You posted my favorite Mr. Wu quote: "I'll Buckle Your Swash". Thanks for bringing us a fun and pleasant alternative to current IRL news.
I did for a long time, and I won't leave an unattended candle in a room. I also did not get a wood burning fireplace when I built my house. It's still a little hard when I read news stories about fires, but I recovered.
Oh Anne, I'm so sorry that happened but so wonderful that everyone rallied around you in such a great way. I'm especially glad your art was saved.

Yes, I still have a rolodex.
Huzzah for Pandas! Huzzah for Pirate Wu!
Such a horrendous story about your fire. Hope you don’t suffer from nightmares about it.

I love Mr. Wu!
Mr Wu is the best! (don't tell Pinky)
