Thanks to Andrea Mallott for taking these photos of my exhibition
The reception for the three person exhibition that is showing at Fountainhead Gallery in Seattle from July 3rd to August 3rd, happened yesterday evening (July 12).
My grad school advisor, Norman Lundin once referred to having a show as all your work being dressed up for their night out on the town, and that expression has always stuck with me. Work looks one way in your studio but when it’s framed, on the wall of a formal space, and lit properly, you really see what it looks like.
My work was dressed up and so was I! It is always fun to talk about process and with monotype there is a lot of process to talk about. Maybe I’ll do that here sometime!
Thanks in abundance to Sara and Cassandra at the gallery, who painstakingly figured out how to hang my work. If you’ve ever tried to line up a group of small paintings on a wall, you know! Anyway, they hung it as I would have hung it myself if that was my job.
A number of the monotypes sold (thank you, thank you…you know who you are) which is gratifying in many ways, not the least of which of when you tell your gallery that you have done work that is rather different than what you had been doing, 2 months before the show opens. I love painting, and the paintings that I make, but I need new challenges and switching up medium from time to time is a good way to invigorate the creative process. Now can I say “I told you so”?
It was so nice to get to talk to people at the reception. There were enough people there to make it feel festive, but not so many that I felt overwhelmed by the crowds. Not to mention it was warm (for Seattle).

I am very excited to get back to work and experiment with more ways of creating monotypes. Thanks again to Wendy Orville for lighting a spark and inspiring me to clean all the junk sitting on my press off so I could actually use it. Two friends who have also just taken a class from Wendy are going to start working on my press. Another experiment! We’ll see how it goes.
I hope you all are well and coping with the world as it is. It was nice to take a short break from reality and think about what is beautiful and nurturing in the world. Because otherwise, what are we fighting for?
If you are in the Seattle area, I hope you have a chance to get up to the gallery before August 3rd to see the show.
It is beautiful! I am so glad you did this change to monotypes! I love all of them. The wall with the interspersed leaves is wonderful and should be kept together because it is so beautiful my breath catches. Your name in big letters I like, too! My congratulations to you for taking a chance on trying something new and the courage to exhibit the beauty of what you accomplished. I really am breathless. So happy for you and thinking of you and your triumph! Brava! And my best always!
Congratulations on your show! Loving all of your small works. I’m intrigued with the way they are hung. Hope you have great sales!
