Why do I think this year is going to make last year look good?

Welcome to Part 3 of our Year in Review

Ss terrible as we think that 2023 has been, I suspect 2024 is getting ready to say “Hold my beer!” We had to say goodbye in real life, to our beloved DC pandas, but you can rest assured, they will live on in the DC Panda House, along with a motley assortment of other bears. I mean, how do you say “no” to bears? You just can’t.

But let’s jump right in to our final look at some of our favorite ‘toons from 2023!

The Panda Chronicles: putting the “WHEEEEE!” in Wheel!

There were so many bears in the NooZ, we could hardly keep up. From the Official Fat Bear Festival in Katmai National Park in Alaska, to bears behaving badly all around the country, Frank and Mikey had their paws full trying to cover it all.

I hope we see Otis return to the fishing grounds one more year. I don’t have high hopes for this, as Otis’s age is already estimated to be 27, which is old for a bear.

Even though it broke our hearts to watch them go, we watched as the trucks rolled out onto Connecticut Avenue for Mei Xiang, Xiao Qi Ji, and Tian Tian as they made their way to the airport and their final trip on Pand Air. Even as we reject the reality (Alternative Panda NooZ!) we did have to make a little commentary on the events of the day.

We did start a new adventure for Bikkie, Pookie and Mr. Poppee, which we keep getting distracted from. I promise I’ll get back to it shortly. But let me just leave you here with the following ‘toon, which sums up how much we’re looking forward to 2024!

I can’t believe we are already halfway through January! This year is going to test our resolve, our faith, and our stamina. I think I can speak for most of the people who read about my pandas, that we would prefer sanity over sadism, truth over trauma, and kindness over cruelty.

To the best of our ability, we need to do what we can to see that democracy prevails. I thank all of you for being here with me. You all support me, whether or not you can do so financially. To paraphrase a famous song, people who love people who love pandas are the happiest people in the world.
