It was a really happy day for me, when I learned that titles are not subject to copyright. This meant I could “borrow” and be inspired by book, song, and movie titles and use those titles to name my paintings. I suppose it also means I could, say, entitle a picture book War and Peace. Or maybe I could call it “Warren Peas” about a very proper vegetable.

I not only borrowed the title from a song (The 10,000 Maniacs; Natalie Merchant version of it, to be precise) but I also borrowed the model, my friend Dana’s cat Felix,. who is allowed wherever he wants to go. Cats! Nobody tells cats what to do!
